After reflecting on our own obsession with buying new tech and the UK’s shockingly large contribution to the global e-waste crisis, we set ourselves an assignment…
…to create and unwaveringly commit to an ecommerce business model that has a positive impact on the environment. To pioneer a new way of merchandising tech and lead the way in reducing e-waste in the UK. To be good and to do good on behalf of our customers.
We’re no strangers to this industry. With stacks of experience in both purchasing and merchandising tech products, we are in this arena to make a difference.
So what does it look like for us to responsibly steward our business on a planet with finite resources?
We believe that if you know what you’re buying, you won’t need to return it.
We’re here to help you make informed purchase decisions to avoid you the hassle and waste of returning and buying again. By minimising the number of returns, we’re reducing e-waste and carbon emissions and making the whole buying process more efficient. We’d call that a win-win.
How? We’ll carefully, succinctly and intelligibly describe our products, so that you know exactly what you’re getting.
And we’ll also be on hand via our online chat and open phone line to discuss your requirements and answer your questions. We’ve got a team of trained advisors to guide you to the right products for your needs.
Mitigating Our Environmental Impact
Sustainable Packaging Solutions and Recycling
We reuse, repurpose and recycle all packaging into the business. Any purchased packaging is plastic-free and packing slips and delivery labels are printed using an energy-efficient thermal printer which removes the need for an additional printer, ribbon and ink and toner cartridges.
Sustainable Options for Delivery and Returns
All deliveries to our customers via UPS/DPD are carbon neutral and we offer convenient options for: grouped deliveries, specified date deliveries, timed deliveries and pick up/ collection points. Any returns are repurposed to prevent them entering landfill.
Sustainable Sourcing and Waste Management
We use 80% sustainable energy sources to power our warehouse and offices. We also proactively ask all suppliers to email paperwork to minimise printing and waste paper. By responsibly processing waste, Gotraka will become zero waste to landfill.
Our Commitment to the Future
Our ambition is to streamline and simplify the system by which products are both purchased and discarded. To minimise the amount and impact of e-waste.
We’re putting in the leg work now to provide a circular system for customers to dispose of their old products in an environmentally positive way. We want to recover as much product as we can to reduce the mining of new resources.
What are we working on?
Here’s a glimpse into what we’re already planning for:
• All deliveries to be carbon neutral (not just with UPS/DPD)
• The functionality to collect old tech products for recycling, repurposing or reselling
• Becoming Carbon Net Zero by 2030
• Installing wind/ solar power to our distribution centre
• Building and developing our own electric delivery fleet
• Achieving B Corp Status
