What Is RAM?

RAM stands for Random Access Memory – and it’s one of the most important parts to consider in your full gaming PC set up. It acts as a short-term memory storage unit, temporarily holding data from the game you’re playing.

More RAM equals better frame rates and more responsiveness – and helps your PC multitask if you’re doing other things at the same time.

How To Choose RAM For Your Gaming PC

RAM sticks always work in pairs – so you’ll need to buy and insert at least two sticks. Check your motherboard to see how many slots it has (it’ll be an even number!) and then decide how much RAM you want: 8BG of RAM is the baseline for most games today, but we’d recommend going for at least 16GB to ensure solid performance on the most intensive games.

Make sure your chosen components have low latency: this determines how quickly your RAM sticks can talk to your CPU, and therefore how fast they perform their tasks. The lower the latency, the better.

Is 32GB of RAM overkill for gaming? We don’t think so. This twin 16GB set of RAM sticks takes Intel-based gaming pcs to a whole new level.

You might have noticed the latency jumping up to 36 here – don’t worry, the clock speed makes up for this, and DDR5 is the latest tech on the market – which will elevate gaming rigs to a whole new level!

What RAM Is Right For You?

Deciding which RAM components essentially comes down to the following questions:

  • How many slots does your motherboard have for RAM sticks?
  • Do you want 8GB, 16GM or 32GB of RAM?
  • What can you afford?

We recommend 16GB of RAM – it will be more than enough for high performance on most games.

However, 8GB will be enough for casual light to moderate gaming, so there is no need to invest in more if that’s all you need. While if money is no object, and your motherboard has the capability, 32GB is the ultimate gamers’ dream.

Don’t forget RAM must be used in pairs, and must have the exact same specs to ensure they run correctly.
